Spiritual Life & Service

Junior High Chapel:  Students had the privilege of being led in worship by our very own Junior High Worship Band! This was the second time the group has played this year, and they did a fantastic job! After that great time of worship, students were then presented with three different testimonies from three TKA high school students. Each of these students presented their unique journey from feeling hopeless or lost to ultimately finding their foundation/home (CENTER!) in Christ! Each student reiterated the amazing love and resolution that they found through each of their trials when they ultimately placed their faith in God's unwavering providence. As each student spoke of their own testimony, it is our prayer that students could connect with each narrative and come to know just how much they are loved by their community at TKA because we are first loved by an amazing God.
  • During Chapel, students saw a video encouraging us to go outside of ourselves this season. This coming Tuesday we are going to take this opportunity to love on others by taking an offering at the beginning of chapel.  The money will go towards providing water for a third world country.  Please pray about this time of donation and come with what you feel you can do!  Merry Christmas and Happy Blessings to you!!

This Week in High School Chapel: Two students, Abin Thomas and Olivia Wright, shared their testimonies. Both talked about events in their lives not being what they had “planned for,” yet, God used their circumstances to lead and guide them through to the place they are today. For Abin, it was the death of his father, and being raised by a step-father. For Olivia, it has been the struggling with Crohn’s disease since the age of 3. Abin has discovered a thankfulness for his journey and a deeper faith and walk with God, and he encouraged the students to do the same. Miraculously, Olivia is currently healed — much to the perplexity of doctors — and encouraged the student body to continue trusting in God through it all.

So grateful for you! -Julie Jahde, Service Outreach Coordinator.

Academic & College Counseling

Important Reminder: College Night for Juniors Thursday, December 11, at 7:00 p.m in the Theater: Juniors and their parents should plan to attend. This is the most important college meeting of the year for juniors! This meeting will cover the College counseling and application process, and give insight in how the TKA college counseling staff will work with juniors to successfully get your student into a well-matched college. Parents, if you would like to get a head start on your own homework, please download this Parent Response form.

Senior Parents:  Many private colleges and universities require the College Board CSS PROFILE to be filed for awarding financial aid.  The PROFILE is now available for those submitting fall 2015 college applications.  Filling out the PROFILE can be a time-consuming process, so it will be to your benefit to begin as soon as possible. Please visit https://profileonline.collegeboard.org/prf/index.jsp for more information.

Seniors – College Recommendation Letter Request Envelopes: We want to remind our seniors to be considerate towards our counseling staff, and give them time to work on recommendation letters before the Holiday break that we all deserve, by remembering the following:

  • Your large white envelope with the Counselor Recommendation Request form is due NO LATER THAN Monday, December 1, if your first college application deadline is between January 1 and January 31.
  • If your first application deadline is later than January 31, please look at the due dates on your envelope.

Seniors - You Must Send SAT/ACT Scores to Colleges:  Remember that you are responsible to send your SAT and/or ACT scores to the colleges to which you are applying. The SAT scores are ordered through College Board and ACT through ACT Student. See your college counselor if you have any questions or are uncertain about details.

Scholarship Information in Naviance Family Connection:  As we become aware of scholarship opportunities, the information will be added to Naviance so that students and parents can use Family Connection as one source for scholarship information. From your Naviance Family Connection home page, click on the “Colleges” tab and look under “scholarships and money.” If you have trouble accessing Naviance, we are more than happy to help if you let us know.

PSAT Results:  The Academic and College Counseling office has not yet received the PSAT score reports.  When the score reports are ready to be picked up, we will send an email to the email address that you provided on the PSAT registration form.  We will also announce the score report availability in the email bulletin. Remember to get the most out of the time and money spent in taking this test by attending the 10th Grade College Night on Thursday, January 15, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. in the Theatre.  We will have a comprehensive review of what the PSAT scores mean and what to do next.  Get this on your calendar now – don’t miss out on this excellent presentation!

TKA Football Honored In Sports Blog By Armin Jorgeson (10/27/14): "Today, people are shown the flashiest celebration dances, the rudest post-game interviews, or the most vile trash-talk picked up by on-field microphones. Anyone watching an NFL or NBA game could easily say that sportsmanship is dead. However, for the student-athletes at The Kings Academy, a private Christian school in Sunnyvale, California, they never got the memo. For football head coach Mike Johnson and his 38 players, winning isn’t the most important thing– yet they do plenty of that too –sportsmanship and honoring God come first for them..."
